Shurk

Self titled ‘The undead wanderer of the cosmos’, Shurk is the experimental electronic alias and solo project from Benjamin Dunkerley. Shurk had its inception at the age of 16 in 2013, and despite beginning as an EDM based project, has seen considerable growth and musical maturation as time has passed.

Shurk scored its first major commercial success with ‘Haunted‘, released on June 29th, 2014, which was discovered by celebrity YouTube gamer, Markiplier, and is to this day used as his outro music. It has since amassed several million plays across the internet, including several fan made covers and remixes.

Following from this success, Benjamin was commissioned to compile the OST for the successful Steam minigame, ‘Critical Annihilation’, which was played and well received by popular YouTube gamers, Markiplier, JackSepticEye and M3RKMUSIC.

In 2016, Shurk secured its first label release, with ‘Absolution‘, courtesy of Tasty records, going on to release an EP, ‘A Darker World’, and his debut album, ‘Into The Void’ with the label.

Shurk has continued to release a number of well received singles in 2018 and 2019 which express a more thoughtful and well developed approach to his place within the contemporary electronic music scene, including ‘Wooly’, ‘Black Numbers’ and Nectar’ – a collaboration with up and coming Florida rapper, ‘Chester Watson’. These singles more closely reflect Benjamin’s learned experience while studying experimental musical non-idioms at the University Of Surrey between 2017-2019.

Shurk released ‘Per Form’ from his 2019 collaboration with the Actual Size Dance Company at GSA, Guildford, which incorporates dark post-industrial UK dubstep aesthetics mixed with Persian and Arabic music cultures in a contemporary dance soundtrack.
